SAT PRIVATE LESSON

At One Worldist, students work with native English speakers who are professionally certified, experienced SAT exam tutors. Lessons can take place at either one of our Istanbul offices, centrally located in Beşiktaş and Kadikoy, or we will send the instructor to his or her home or another convenient location.

The core of the SAT test consists of modules in Reading, Writing and Math. There are also SAT Subject Tests. Most colleges and universities use the SAT or an equivalent to make admissions decisions. Indeed, the SAT is applied all over the world as an indicator of academic success in college. Moreover, the SAT can also be used to garner financial support and scholarships. Most students take the SAT as early as their Junior year, and many start preparing as early as the Sophomore year of high school.

For SAT skill development, we have one-to-one and small group lessons. While most of our lessons are one-to-one, which allows for the tutor’s complete focus to be on the student, we also offer small group lessons for a maximum of five students.

In order to determine a student’s readiness for the SAT, and in order to establish a study plan, an SAT diagnostic test must first be administered. According to the results, the student will be put on a tailor-made path to SAT success.

SAT One-to-One Preparatory Program:

Every student’s strengths and weaknesses are different. Some kids may need only an SAT crash course, whereas others may need extensive preparation.

One-to-one lessons are the fastest, most effective way to prepare for the SAT. At One World Test, we help our students establish realistic goals within a given time frame. One World Test provides some SAT test prep materials, but we encourage students to locate and bring their own print and digital resources if possible.

Mathematics:

The math module consists of 58 problems divided between no-calculator and calculator allowed sections.  At 80 minutes, this clocks in as the longest test on the SAT, assessing various topics such as manipulation of exponents and problems like rate, logic and ratio; expanded math topics including arithmetic functions; and fundamental Euclidean geometry applications like three-dimensional objects, circles, triangles and polygons.

The key to success in these areas is solving problems with our knowledgeable, experienced SAT mathematics tutor.

Critical Reading, Writing & Language:

The critical reading module is made up of both long and short reading passages, and sentence-completion questions. The test taker should answer the 52 questions in just over an hour. The passage-based reading assesses the student’s grasp of what is stated in or implied by the text. The sentence-completion questions assess a student’s vocabulary and sentence structure understanding.

The Writing & Language module It consists of a multiple-choice section that has 44 questions about grammar, English usage and word choice. Test takers have 35 minutes to improve upon given sentences in terms of usage and sentences structure; identify sentence errors in terms of usage; and improve paragraphs in terms of organization, coherence and logic, which necessitates either revising sentences in the context of a paragraph or the essay as a whole.

The optional writing task requires the student to compose an essay in which he or she must choose a side on an issue and provide examples and logical arguments to support their point of view. The essay is scored on a scale ranging from 1 to 6 and is marked by two test graders who know neither each other nor the student. The essay duration is 50 minutes.

Unscored Section:

There is a 25-minute section called the variable or equating section. There is no score awarded for this section, which may consist of either math, critical reading or writing-multiple choice. The unscored section does not count towards the final score. Students do not know which section is the unscored section, so all sections should be treated as if they are the section that will be scored. The purpose of the unscored section is for new questions to be tried out and to make sure that the scores and question difficult of new tests are akin to those in previous editions.
